Tutorial Thursday – Finding Relevant Articles to Answer Your Research Question

It’s Tutorial Thursday! In this series, we explore APA’s library of video tutorials available on the APA Publishing Training YouTube channel. Please feel free to link to or embed our videos in your library websites or LibGuides, course management systems, or other locations where students, faculty, and researchers will find them.

The first short video prepares you to be able to use the APA Thesaurus in order to search for relevant articles that will answer your research question. We’ll start by discussing the value of using the APA Thesaurus. Then, we’ll explain how to identify search terms from your research question that you use use when searching the Thesaurus.



The second short video shows how to identify Index Terms in the APA Thesaurus and use these Index terms to create a tailored search.

By the end of this 2-part tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Explain the value of using the APA Thesaurus
  • Identify search terms from a research question
  • Develop a search using the APA Thesaurus
  • Save a search and create an email alert to stay up to date on new articles on your topic
