New Handbook: The APA Handbook of Clinical Psychology

The APA Handbooks in Psychology series was launched in 2011 to provide comprehensive overviews and in-depth study of specific subfields within psychology. All of the Handbooks are included in the PsycBOOKS® database, and titles are also available individually.

The series currently contains 20 authoritative titles, including the 2014 CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title, APA Handbook of Sexuality and Psychology.

The most recent addition to the series, the APA Handbook of Clinical Psychology, was published in June 2016. This five-volume set reflects the state-of-the-art in clinical psychology — science, practice, research, and training. PsycBOOKS users on APA PsycNET® (including subscribers to APA PsycNET Gold, Gold Plus, and Platinum), EBSCOhost, Ovid and ProQuest can access the entire series by browsing PsycBOOKS or by performing a title search for a particular handbook.

American Psychologist: Special Issue on Undergraduate Education

The official peer-reviewed scholarly journal of the American Psychological Association, American Psychologist publishes current and timely high-impact papers of broad interest, including empirical reports, meta-analyses, and scholarly reviews covering science, practice, education, and policy. Contributions often address national and international policy issues.

Earlier this year, APA published a special issue of American Psychologist: “Undergraduate Education in Psychology: Current Status and Future Directions.” The issue, edited by guest editors John C. Norcross, PhD, ABPP, and Robin Hailstorks, PhD, takes an in-depth look at emergent trends in psychology undergraduate education and offers new guidelines for educators and students. The articles featured in this special issue are:

We recently hosted a training session at Mosaic ’16, the joint conference of the Medical Library Association, the Canadian Health Libraries Association, and the International Clinical Librarian Conference.

One of the items we covered in this session was the Tests & Measures field. We started off by describing the field and the information it includes – the topic of a post on this blog a little over a month ago. Introducing Dawn Harper

The APA Databases & Electronic Resources Customer Relations team is growing! Dawn Harper, MSLIS, joined the team in April 2016 as the APA Style Documentation and Training Specialist.

Prior to joining APA, she was a Distance and Instruction Librarian at Nova Southeastern University, where she managed online workshops and e-learning for the library. In addition, she worked with the Colleges of Business, Education, and Psychology to provide instruction in information literacy and research using subject-specific resources. In previous positions, Dawn worked with copyright and scholarly communications at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and provided reference and instructional services at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts.

She has an MS in Library and Information Science from Simmons College and a BA in Media Arts and Design from James Madison University.

Dawn’s role at APA will focus mainly on training for APA Style CENTRAL™, and she will join the other training specialists in providing webinars, print and online training materials, and conducting in-person training sessions. Her experience working with students, faculty, staff, and librarians and APA Style® will ensure training materials are as useful and relevant as possible.
